Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in the Lead in Swing State Polling

Hillary Clinton and Donald TrumpHillary Clinton and Donald Trump lead their respective party’s primary races in Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania, reveals a new poll from Quinnipiac University. However, neither of the candidates fared well in comparison to their other contestants competitors in a hypothetical general election face-off in the states.

Clinton has a narrow lead against Republican rival Trump in Florida with 46% to 42%, but she fared evenly against four other Republican candidates. Both candidates run nearly evenly in Pennsylvania (Clinton 44% to Trump 42%) and Ohio (Clinton 43% to Trump 42%).

That being said, the former first lady trails Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, in both the states. She also falls behind Carly Fiorina and Jeb Bush in Pennsylvania and trails Ben Carson, a retired neurosurgeon, in Ohio.

When placed next to top Democratic contenders, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Vice President Joe Biden the businessman trail in the all the three states i.e. Ohio, Florida, and Pennsylvania by a significant margin.

Still, the front runners in their party’s nomination face a long road ahead. They have to overcome various obstacles before they are nominated for their respective parties.

On March 15 next year, Ohio and Florida are scheduled to host primaries that will have a greater outcome in the nomination battle as compared to Pennsylvania. Voters are expected to go the polls in Pennsylvania in late April. However, if the primary contests remain competitive in the spring, the Keystone State will be one of the biggest prizes for both contestants after the March voting.

Trump, who has been described as ‘The most interesting character out there’ by Bill Clinton, leads the Republican field in Florida by twelve points over Carson who is in second position. The two contestants that call Florida their home ground, Rubio and Bush, are in the third and fourth positions with 14% and 12% votes.

In Pennsylvania, Trump tops Caron’s 17% with 23% support. Rubio is in second position with 12%. Other candidates’ support in the state is well below double digit figure.

In Ohio, Trump has a lead over Carson as well 23% to 18%. John Kasich, the governor of Ohio, is in third position with 13% support. Senator Ted Cruz and Fiorina are in fourth and fifth position with 11% and 10% respectively.

digit figureTalking about the Democrats, Clinton has a lead in all three states over her rivals. She holds wider lead over her contenders in each of the three states with majority support of 36%, 40%, and 43% in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Florida respectively. Biden and Sanders hold the second and third positions in the three states.

On a final note, both Clinton and Trump have negative favourability ratings in the three swing states with most of the people saying they have doubts about the honesty of the candidates. Biden and Carson are seen as the most honest and trustworthy in the three states.

That being said, Clinton and Trump are both said to have strong leadership qualities by the majorities in all the three states. Biden is the only other candidate that is regarded as having great qualities as a leader in the three swing states that decide the fate of the President’s post in the US.
