Justin Trudeau’s Election Success – Learning Experience for American Democrats

It is a waiting game for the American Democratic Party who wereElection expecting Joe Biden enter the presidential bid for the third time in a row. As he has withdrawn from the race altogether, the party will have to pool its experience and expertise to figure out a way to appeal to the socialistic side of unemployed Americans and young people facing the woes of unpaid student debts, bad real estate market and worthless health insurance plans.

The American Dems can however, learn a thing or two from the successful election campaign of the Liberal Party’s Justin Trudeau. Trudeau might not be the classic example of a honed politician. He has a tattoo; he was a former boxer and was dismissed frequently for being just a handsome face; but the 43 year old leader is considered a people’s politician and was in serious competition with the conservative Prime Minister, Stephen Harper.

After being badly beaten in the previous election and facing many doubters, in less than 11 weeks, Trudeau surpassed his competitors by winning the election and becoming the Prime Minister of Canada. Seeing his rapid success, the American Democrats could certainly take pointers from his compelling political narrative and riveting speeches.

Trudeau put a lot of hope in building the infrastructure from the bottom up and investing in the future of the country. His motto to do more for people who need it and less for those who don’t, won him popularity laurels over the other leaders. Like Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 election, he put a lot of emphasis on hope and change. This constructive belief system will however, not help the American Democratic Party in these elections as they don’t have Obama on the ballot.

Trudeau managed to revamp the entire image of the Liberal Party which was worse for wear. His leadership and oration skills were Justin Trudeaufar from being a radical. He ran his whole campaign on leftist economic beliefs, outflanking the social-democratic New Democratic Party. Instead of going on and on about the tepid topics like budget deficits, he declared future investment and job creation to be his utmost priority.

The American Democrats are in serious trouble as they don’t have much to go forward on other then voter demographics. The clear vision which Obama brought to the table is non-existent, which has left the Democrats grasping at straws to stay alive during this election season. They can thus, learn some tricks on austerity and agenda formation from Trudeau who proposed to tax the rich to do more for people with low economic backgrounds. By embracing ethnic and cultural diversity, Trudeau has created a stark difference between himself and Donald Trump. Progressive and fair taxation, job-creating infrastructure, and investing on infrastructure to decrease the economic deficits were his main concerns.

Trudeau has emerged as a hero for the working class as a proponent for maintaining the posterity of elections and delivering boldness, instruction and optimism in a complete package. American Democrats should also get their heads together and form a strategy by studying Trudeau’s political playbook, if they hope to survive this election season. Trudeau beat fear with hope and cynicism with hard work. His aim is to make Canada a better place than it already is. He’ll probably disappoint many people in the process as all sweeping election leaders do but he surely is starting on the right foot with the right attitude.
