Taylor Swift’s album 1989 completes one year on the charts

Taylor Swift and her squad of famous friends celebrate one year of her album 1989

Same day, last year Taylor’s Swift’s album 1989 released and broke all billboard records. This album was different from her last 4 albums in a lot of ways. To start with, this was her first true pop album and this album has undoubtedly made her the reigning queen of the music industry. There is no denying that this album completely changed the game of Taylor Swift.

The introduction of #SquadGoals

With the Bad Blood music video, Taylor Swift showed off her amazing squad which included Gigi Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Selena Gomez, Lena Dunhum and many more. Although, she had been seen with her ever so famous friends before, this was the first time they all came together to support Taylor. And when the video won the Video of the Year award at the MTV VMAs this year, her squad was right by her side, strutting the red carpet.

1989 went platinum in a single week

Taylor Swift’s album was probably expected to go platinum by the market experts but nobody knew it could go platinum in a single week. While the album was expected to sell about 65k copies in the first week, it actually sold 1.28 copies and declared Swift was the star.

Taylor Swift won her fight against Apple Music

When Apple announced their Apple Music application would be giving a three month trial period for all their users, they also mentioned artists won’t get paid their royalties during this time period. While many artists in the music industry were unhappy about it, Taylor was the first one who spoke out and publically called out the company. Taylor wrote a long letter to the organization on her Tumblr page and encouraged all of her followers to speak out about this.

Shortly after she published the letter, a lot of other celebrities supported her including her boyfriend Calvin Harries and singer Rachel Platten. After facing way too much criticism, Apple finally decided to bow down and are paying each artist their royalties.

A cover tribute by Ryan Adams

The highest form of flattery is indeed imitation and Taylor could certainly never deny it. Just a few months after the launch of 1989, Ryan Adams announced that he would be coming out with a 1989 cover album which would include all of Swift’s song. Adams called himself a big ‘Swiftie’ and compared Taylor to Shakespeare. We think Taylor was more than impressed by Ryan.

Star studded 1989 Tour

Taylor Swift kicked off her 1989 World Tour in Japan with a big bang but nobody knew how big it could actually get. Every time Taylor comes on stage, she brings a new celebrity out enchanting her entire audience. Her ‘Bad Blood’ co-stars have definitely made an appearance more than once, with Selena Gomez serenading her song ‘Good For You’ from her new album.

Taylor has also had other celebrities including Julia Roberts, Heidi Klum, Ellen DeGeneres, Justin Timberlake, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler, Keith Urban and many more. She also managed to get Lisa Kudrow on stage to sing her song ‘Smelly Cat’ from the ever so famous show ‘Friends’.

The fifth video from the album was ‘Wildest Dreams’ which was released just a month ago. Needless to say, Taylor will probably release more videos before her tour 1989 ends in December.
