Poll Shows Hillary Clinton Is Seen as More Likely Than Bernie Sanders to Be Effective

As the Democratic Presidential nomination contest is approaching and looking more likely to be a two-person competition, there is no doubting the fact that Hillary Rodham Clinton, to a great extent, is considered as a more appropriate and well-positioned candidate than Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont. She has also persuaded the party’s primary voters that she would be more effectual at completing her agenda and coping with international crises.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, however, has made it clear that he and Clinton are completely different candidates.

“She and I have very different points of view on a number of issues. Also, how we came to our point of view—and when we came to our point of view—is something that I think the voters in the Democratic primary process should know about, and they will know about.” said Sanders.

62 percent of Democratic primary voters have stated that Mrs. Clinton can contribute towards bringing real change in Washington, compared with 51 percent for Mr. Sanders. Mr Sanders and Mrs. Clinton are set to face off on Saturday in Des Moines.

“Hillary Clinton looks forward to the debate as an opportunity to discuss her vision for the best solutions to deal with the issues that keep American families up at night,” Clinton spokeswoman, Christina Reynolds said.

Fewer debate participants is a clear indicator of more opportunities for Sanders to exhibit that he’s more progressive than Clinton on subjects such as immigration, education, Social Security, criminal justice reform, and other issues.

However, Mrs. Clinton stimulates more belief and confidence amid party members on an array of matters than the relatively lesser-known Mr. Sanders, who has just begun running biographical advertisements on television. On a signature Sanders issue, regarding the administration of large banks and financial institutions, Mrs. Clinton influenced confidence in 70 percent of primary voters, compared with 65 percent for Mr. Sanders. On gun laws, 76 percent of Democratic primary voters think she would make the right decisions compared with 57 percent for Mr. Sanders, whose votes against some gun-control measures have been highlighted by Mrs. Clinton.

Moreover, regarding issues related to foreign conflicts, Democrats adamantly professed more faith in the decision-making ability of Mrs. Clinton, a former secretary of state, in comparison to Mr. Sanders, a longtime antiwar figure.

“She knows all the players, all the world leaders,” Jan Lyles, 52, a consultant in Reno, Nev., said in an interview after the poll was completed. She added, approvingly, “She has her husband behind her for advice.” Three-quarters of Democrats view Bill Clinton favorably.

After a summer-long lull in the polls, these latest numbers reflect a sequence of favorable progress for Clinton in recent weeks. Her strong presentation at the first Democratic debate, Vice President Joe Biden’s decision not to enter the race, and a well-received testimony to a House committee investigating the 2012 attack on the United States diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, have all helped anchor Clinton’s campaign.
