Tina Fey and Amy Poehler rock SNL as the year closes

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the last Saturday Night Live of 2015. They had ninety minutes to reprise umpteen characters and they made the most of it. There were many anticipations and the duo did not seem to disappoint. Well, every time Tina Fey and Amy Poehler join hands, one can only expect a laugh riot.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler score a big one with this week's Saturday Night Live episode

There was a parody of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood”. To imitate the famous Taylor Swift squad, there was a “Tina and Amy’s Dope Squad”. The hosts answered a myriad of junket questions with a tribute to their three nannies. If you are wondering, why three, that is because dearest Amy has two. One for each kid, we guess. They also talked about their shared gynecologists and celebrity friends including Amy Schumer and a quid pro quo by Gayle King and Robert Downey Sr. For the audiences, Robert Downey Sr. was rather a surprise.

Maya Rudolph makes a comeback

Another cameo that wasn’t a surprise at all was the cameo by Maya Rudolph. She is the best bet for holiday music and both NBC and SNL love her performances. This was a tad shorter performance of a ’70s-set as a boozy artist singing “12 Days of Christmas” after 12 shots of rum. Maya Rudolph teamed with Amy for the return of “Bronx Beat with Betty and Jodi”. Fey joined them as Betty’s cousin Karen. Nailing that perfect Philadelphia accent, Fey enthralled the audiences with countless repetitions of “water” or “wooder”.

The entire show was planned quite extensively and the ‘Sisters’ stars impressed the audience. They avoided sharing the spotlight with anybody from ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ or any other year-end releases. There was a negligent cameo by Darrell Hammond as Donald Trump. And then there were stunning performances by Kate McKinnon and Amy Poehler dueling as Hillary Clinton in an ‘A Christmas Carol’ sketch. With it, the audiences saw the comeback of Fey’s Sarah Palin. Though Tina Fey’s Palin could not justify her presence at all but her one-liners and advices did keep audience amused. Because there is not much scope for boredom when you have Tina Fey and Amy Poehler teaming up together.

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler reprise old characters

There were other characters that audience must have not expected to return. Kenan Thompson brought back his Jeffersons trained director and left the audience in splits with his highly bad advices that were duly imparted to Poehler and Fey who enacted a Carol-esque period drama. It was the end of the 2015 for Saturday Night Live. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, both being the Weekend Update icons appeared at the end of this week’s Weekend Update installment. With Fey’s spoof on Palin on Saturday Night Live and co-host Amy Poehler reprising her famed Hillary Clinton impression, the show gave audience some hilarious moments. The segment in the end was left mostly to Colin Jost and Michael Che, dashing hopes for a Seth Meyers or Jimmy Fallon drop-by.
