All the Game of Thrones fans were finally able to breathe again when the comeback of Jon Snow was confirmed in the first poster and teaser for Season 6 of the show, but the book fans are now highly disappointed. George R.R. Martin has revealed that the next book in the Game of Thrones saga won’t be released in 2016.
Martin missed the deadline twice
The next installation of the world famous fantasy series “Winds of Winter” was supposed to be published in early 2016, but since Martin has still not finished the book, it looks like the fans would have to wait for quiet sometime.
He had planned to have the sixth book in his “A Song of Ice and Fire” saga to be done by the end of 2015, but then he missed his first deadline which was at the end of October. His last novel in the series, the 1,040-page “A Dance with Dragons”, was published back in 2011.
“Unfortunately, the writing did not go as fast or as well as I would have liked,” he wrote. “You can blame my travels or my blog posts or the distractions of other projects and the Cocteau and whatever, but maybe all that had an impact… you can blame my age, and maybe that had an impact too…but if truth be told, sometimes the writing goes well and sometimes it doesn’t, and that was true for me even when I was in my 20s. And as spring turned to summer, I was having more bad days than good ones. Around about August, I had to face facts: I was not going to be done by Halloween.” Martin wrote on his blog.
“I still thought I could do it… but the days and weeks flew by faster than the pile of pages grew, and (as I often do) I grew unhappy with some of the choices I’d made and began to revise … There are no excuses. No one else is to blame … I tried, and I am still trying.” So when will the new book come out? “I am not going to set another deadline for myself to trip over,” Martin wrote. “The deadlines just stress me out. I am going back to my stance from last March, before all this. It will be done when it’s done. And it will be as good as I can possibly make it.”
For the first time Game of Thrones TV show will go ahead of the books
The HBO show is now going into an uncharted territory as it explores the story of the famous Game of Thrones characters before it has been written in the book. For the last five years, the show’s producers have followed almost the same story as it was described in the books and though there were some big changes introduced in Season 5, the season finale ended at the same place the story ended in the “Dance of Dragons.
But Martin assures the book fans that the show will not really spoil the books for them. The changes introduced in the show in the last season will create a butterfly effect which will then lead to some big changes in the show this season. All of them won’t affect the book’s storyline in any way.
It will be interesting to see how the show’s writers and producers will do this epic saga the right justice.
