Tory Burch and Pierre-Yves Roussel are fashion’s newest power couple

Kim and Kanye, watch out. There’s a new fashion power couple in town. Right after the New Year, it was announced that Tory Burch and Pierre-Yves Roussel got engaged.

Tory Burch is the chief executive officer and chairman of the famous fashion brand that carries her own name. Her brand was valued at $3.25 billion last year. Meanwhile, Pierre-Yves Roussel is the chief executive officer and chairman of LVMH Group, which includes fashion brands like Emilio Pucci, Céline, Loewe, Kenzo, and Marc Jacobs.

This engagement has officially united two extremely talented fashion people and unofficially combined two big fashion empires.

Pierre-Yves Roussel and Tory Burch just announced that they got engaged and the entire fashion industry can't stop talking about it

Tory Burch shared the big diamond on Instagram

This definitely is not the first time two very famous fashion designers have come together. From Patrizio Bertelli and Miuccia Prada; Frida Giannini and Patrizio di Marco; Valentino Garavani and Giancarlo Giammetti, at least in the early days; Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. But this is the very first time two different fashion empires are coming together.

Known for being social media friendly, Tory Burch shared the wonderful news on her Instagram account. She shared an old picture of her and Pierre and captioned it, “We are tying the knot… #blessed #engaged #happynewyear.”

Since that was an old picture, her diamond was nowhere to be seen in it. She had actually just posted a picture a day before the announcement, which had her posing on a kayak with a huge diamond ring on her finger. This is presumed to be her engagement ring.

The couple met when Roussel was exploring the American market for LVMH. This was the same time, when he also had a fleeting idea of taking over Tory Burch, but we all know how that turned out. They have been dating since 2014. They have appeared together at various public events, including the Givenchy fashion show in New York last September, where they mingled with other LVMH executives, and the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner in November, where they sat at Anna Wintour’s table. On both of these occasions, they were openly swoony, but they have kept things relatively, and understandably, quiet. However, the wedding announcement suddenly has everyone talking about them.

Who will design the wedding dress?

It’s definitely going to be interesting to see who Tory Burch wears on the wedding. Will she wear one of her own creations or an LMVH brand? Or she could take a page from Frida Giannini, the former Gucci creative director, and turn to the amazing Valentino.

Another thing we don’t know about the couple yet is where they will actually live together. Right now, neither of them has any plans of moving. Roussel has already been splitting his time between New York and Paris, where Tory recently opened a store. There has also been a lot of action by LMVH in America. The company has been trying to fold Marc by Marc Jacobs into Marc Jacob’s main line to get it all ready for the upcoming initial public offering.

Both LMVH and Tory Burch target the same audience and are direct competitors. It may be that after they get married, they will think about merging their big brands as well.
