Coachella has finally announced its line-up for 2016 and it includes some really big names. The main headliners of the music festival will be Guns N’ Roses, LCD Soundsystem and Calvin Harris. The entire two weekend festival will be held on April 15-17th and 22-24th.
The much awaited Guns N’ Roses reunion is finally happening on Coachella
The news has been confirmed by the band members on Twitter. This will be the first time since 1993 when Axl Rose and Slash perform together. Slash had left the band in 1996 claiming that it was too hard to work with Axl but the band kept going without him.
Bassist Duff McKagan and guitarist Slash both shared the announcement via Twitter, essentially confirming their participation. Slash also posted a picture on Instagram with the Guns N’ Roses logo along with Coachella written on the side.
Slash’s return to the stage with the band is a big deal, and his presence in the line-up alone can help fill stadiums around the world – but there’s still a ton that we simply don’t know about the terms of this reunion. May be, they actually want to reunite and perform together or maybe there are just getting paid a lot.
The band’s album “Appetite for Destruction” which was released in 1987 still remains the top-selling debut album by a group in the US. Till now it has sold 18 million copies. In the past two decades, the band has only released one album, “Chinese Democracy” and even that came out after constant delays and of course, without Slash. We are definitely intrigued to see what great hits the band performs at Coachella.
LCD Soundsystem returns to find its formula
The band is performing for the first time after their Madison Square Garden send off in 2011. Of course, their fans are excited about it and this came as a rather surprising news for everybody. And when James Murphy and his band take the stage on April 15, they’ll do so having influenced almost everything about club culture and festival EDM that has changed since then.
There is no denying that LCD Soundsystem is one of the greatest EDM bands of this decade. In fact, James Murphy is probably one of the funniest, most heartfelt songwriter in a genre that so rarely prioritizes either. A reunion show on one of the festival circuit’s biggest stages could be a life-affirming set for the band.
But looking at the other performers around Murphy, it’s easy to see that other musicians have tried to take his place in his absence. Calvin Harris is also headlining and this is the first time for the DJ at Coachella. People are already expecting his girlfriend, Taylor Swift, to show up in his support. The DJ has had a great year though with some best-selling songs.
Other performers at this year’s Coachella include Ellie Goulding, Sufjan Stevens, Jack Ü, Ice Cube, A$AP Rocky, CHVRCHES, Sia, Major Lazer, Flume, Courtney Barnett and Lord Huron, among many others.
