Tehran blames Saudi Arabia for striking Iranian Embassy in Yemen

Saudi airstrikes hit Iranian Embassy in the capital of Yemen on Wednesday and the incident is bound to escalate the tensions between the two countries.

Tehran has accused Saudi Arabia for intentionally targeting Iranian Embassy in Sanaa, the capital of Yemen. The airstrikes that took part on Wednesday night, hit the embassy prompting a strong response from Iran. Saudi Arabia however has denied the claims made by Iran’s government and has stressed that detailed investigation is needed.

“This is not credible because we have not seen any evidence, but we will investigate,” Col. Ahmed Asseri, the spokesman of Saudi-led coalition against Yemen, told reporters when asked about remarks on the situation.

Iran however, will not accept the investigation carried out by the Saudi government for certain reasons and would ask for international actors to look into matter. This incident is set to escalate the growing tensions between the two countries and is going where a war is a likely option between the two. This would result in destabilizing the entire Middle East and would threatened the peace and security of entire region.

The Sanaa airstrikes have doubled Iran’s grievances against Saudi Arabia following the execution of 47 people by Saudi Arabia in one day, including the execution of the prominent Shiite cleric, Sheikh Nimr-al-Nimr. He was executed on the charges of terrorism but has received a strong response from Iran where Saudi Embassy was set to fire by the angry mob. In result, Saudi Arabia sever all diplomatic ties with Iran. Saudi Foreign Minister, confirmed the severing of ties between the two countries.

Several other nations, mainly the allies of Saudi Arabia, have sided with Riyadh by recalling their ambassadors from Tehran. United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and even Bahrain, which is ruled by a Sunni monarch despite being a largely Shiite dominant population. However, Iran has not backed off from their stance on the situation and has slammed Saudi government for cutting ties with Iran.

Iranian president Hassan Rouhani while talking to reporters slammed Riyadh for their act. He added that the reaction and the attack against Saudi Embassy in Tehran was a natural reaction from an angry mob. If Saudi government is carrying out such inhumane acts, it should expect such reaction in response from people.

In a meeting with Danish Foreign Minsiter Kristian Jensen in Tehran, Hassan Rouhani said that such actions from Saudi Arabia will not hide their crime.

“Of course, the Saudi government, in order to cover up its crime of beheading a religious leader has resorted to a strange measure and has severed its ties with the Islamic Republic.”

“Undoubtedly, such moves will never hide that great crime,” Rouhani added

In another news, Iranian Cabinet banned all sorts of imports from Saudi Arabia and imposing ban on its people from making pilgrimage to the holy cities of Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. Millions of people from all over the world make pilgrimages to these two places each year.
