Samsung is in the game of impressing its customers, ranging from its tablets to its phones and televisions. And now, it’s developed a super fridge that allows one to organize items in the refrigerator and easily locate them without opening the fridge, thanks to the built-in camera system.
Samsung and LG are known for their crazy inventions, which are usually unleashed during the Consumer Electronics Show, and this year was no different. Samsung’s newsroom brought the Family Hub refrigerator to the public notice via Flickr before the official unveiling of the refrigerator took place during the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on Monday.
The Samsung Family Hub is not an ordinary electronic device, nor is it just the average fridge that shines a light when opened; this baby goes way deeper than that. With three hidden cameras inside to take the photos of the current items residing on your refrigerator shelf, Samsung has managed to break the trend of opening the fridge before discovering you are out of milk! The refrigerator takes the pictures and sends them to your phone; you will constantly be up to date with your refrigerator’s contents.
Let us have a deeper look at the features. After taking a glance at the pictures of the Samsung Family Hub, you certainly wouldn’t fail to notice the TV that has been embedded on the front door of the fridge. Samsung outdid themselves with this. The fridge comes with a 21.5 touch screen embedded into the front door. You also have the liberty to reflect the video feed from your Samsung smart TV to show apps like Pandora, and the Amazon’s Alexa digital voice assistant can also be accessed using the touch screen. You could also access goods from ShopRite and FreshDirect via the groceries by MasterCard app. Thanks to the Smart Things home automation software; you can easily adjust the fridge’s temperature and receive an alert when your kids leave the door open!
The vice president of insight concept and portfolio for Samsung’s digital appliances, Yoon C. Lee, said in an interview “The role of the kitchen has evolved quite a bit from when the first generation of refrigerator was introduced, becoming more of the home’s centre instead of just a place to store food.” He went further to explain his feelings, saying, “We’re excited and anxious and nervous about…what path this will go down.”
Samsung made a vow at the Consumer Electronics Show last year to capitalize their never-ending interest in smart technology, and that by 2020, all of its products would be able to connect to the internet.
The Family Hub refrigerator might not be the first refrigerator created by Samsung that possesses internet connectivity. However, this device has managed to capture the hearts of consumers, who are very impressed at its capabilities.
On the other hand, the thought of a refrigerator being “smart” may sound weird and scary to some consumers. According to Jan Dawson, an analyst at Jackdaw Research, “Smart refrigerators, like most smart home gadgets, often sound better in theory than they work in reality.”
