Some fashion industry observers said fashion designer Anthony Vaccarello could step into Slimane’s shoes.
Chinese firms snap up chunk of French fashion industry
French ready-to-wear fashion labels Sandro, Maje and Claudie Pierlot will be taken over by China’s Shandong Ruyi Technology Group under the terms of an exclusivity agreement announced late Thursday. Hot on the heels of the announcement, French lacemaker Desseilles said Friday it is to be acquired by Chinese firm Yongsheng, in another sign of the growing Chinese presence in France’s fashion industry. In the deal for Sandro and Maje’s parent company SMCP, the founder of the “accessible luxury” labels, sisters Evelyne Chetrite and Judith Milgrom, will remain minority shareholders if the deal goes through, as will their management team and the US investment fund KKR.
Hedi Slimane’s most memorable catwalk looks for Saint Laurent
After four years at the helm of Saint Laurent, Hedi Slimane is stepping down as the French powerhouse’s Creative and Image Director. From bringing back the smudged, exaggerated cat eye to patchwork fur jackets, Slimane’s collections have become synonymous with an instantly recognizable grungy urban street glamour. Another key metallic look was unveiled back in Spring/Summer 2014, when his menswear show featured plenty of shiny silver jackets teamed with leather leggings.

King of rock star chic Hedi Slimane leaves YSL

In what now seems a highly symbolic gesture, he kissed the late Yves Saint Laurent’s partner after presenting his final show for the label last month in Paris before disappearing backstage.
Designer Hedi Slimane to leave Yves Saint Laurent: company
Designer Hedi Slimane — the man credited with creating the skinny jeans look — quit the French fashion label Yves Saint Laurent Friday after four years at the brand. Los Angeles-based Slimane’s exit has been long predicted, with clear signs for some time that all was not well despite his legion of celebrity fans and rocketing profits. The 47-year-old Parisian was accused by some of denigrating the hallowed legacy of the label’s founder Yves Saint Laurent with his grungy rock star chic inspired by the American west coast music scene.

Arkansas sheriff digs into clothing budget for fashion statement
By Steve Barnes LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Reuters) – An Arkansas sheriff with a similar name to a Wild West legend has spent about half of his office’s clothing budget to supply deputies in his mostly urban county with fashionable cowboy hats to top off their uniforms. Sheriff Doc Holladay of Pulaski County, which contains the capital, Little Rock, said he had the money left in the budget for black felt cowboy hats at $155 each for cooler days and white straw versions at $42 each for warmer temperatures. Holladay said he favored the cowboy hat since it had long been traditional in sheriff’s departments across the United States. “We’ve had no standard for headgear in our department and I don’t think ball caps are necessarily the thing to do,” Holladay said, adding the new headgear “looks sharp.” John “Doc” Holliday was a dentist turned gambler and gunman who joined forces with lawman Wyatt Earp in the famed Gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona, in 1881.
The one-piece swimsuit gets a glam reboot for summer 2016
In fact, after being relegated to the back of the wardrobe, this bathing suit is set to splash onto the scene as a must-have for summer 2016. Star of the beaches until the 1960s, the one-piece swimsuit fell slowly out of fashion as the iconic bikini, then later the monokini, revolutionized women’s swimwear. Made popular by stars of the day like Brigitte Bardot and Ursula Andress, the bikini’s success was boosted as women’s liberation movements gained ground.
