Nemechek docked 10 points for failing post-Iowa inspection (The Associated Press)
John Hunter Nemechek’s Camping World Truck Series team was docked 10 points for failing to meet the proper ride height in a post-race inspection at Iowa Speedway. The loss of those points dropped Nemechek from sixth place to a tie for ninth in the standings. Nemechek was also fined $5,000 and placed on probation through the end of 2016 for approaching the race area following an incident with Austin Wayne Self.

Erik Jones will start first Sunday in the NASCAR Xfinity race at Iowa Speedway after winning his sixth pole of the season. Jones has twice as many qualifying victories in 2016 as Kyle Busch, who is second in the series with three. ”Just staying up on it and making good adjustments,” Jones said when asked about the keys for Sunday’s race.

Daniel Suarez became the first Mexican-born driver to win a NASCAR national race, passing Kyle Busch and holding off one of the sport’s big stars at the Xfinity Series race at Michigan. ”To be able to be an example to bring more people is great,” said Suarez, who moved to the U.S. five years ago. NASCAR is making aerodynamic changes, again, hoping to create more competitive racing. ”The rules package is what is on everyone’s mind,” Brad Keselowski said Friday after a practice session at Michigan International Speedway’s two-mile oval. Part of the intrigue revolves around the fact that no one – including the drivers, engineers and NASCAR officials – is sure how the changes will shake out during the FireKeepers Casino 400 on Sunday, when Joey Logano will be on the pole.

Kurt Busch conserves fuel for a win at Pocono Raceway (The Associated Press)
Kurt Busch felt like a game show contestant who had to beat the clock to win a prize. Told his Chevrolet was two laps shy of having enough fuel for the finishing push, Busch did all he could to save, scrimp and stretch over the final five laps to give himself a shot at the win. With an interim crew chief calling the shots, Busch found enough ways to make his gas last and won the Sprint Cup race Monday, his first victory of the season and a welcome dose of good news for Stewart-Haas Racing.
Keselowski angered by Gordon’s comments in booth (The Associated Press)
Brad Keselowski’s car took a shot in the pits and then he took aim at Jeff Gordon. Keselowski, the pole sitter for Monday’s race at Pocono Raceway, ran into early trouble when he was called back to the pits because of unapproved body modifications on his No. 2 Ford. One of his pit crew members threw a shoulder block into a side panel, which caused a dent that potentially could give the car more sideforce and an aerodynamic edge on the track.
Rain postpones NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono to Monday (The Associated Press)
Jeff Gordon found only greatness, not boredom, in Martin Truex Jr’s record run at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In the broadcast booth Sunday, the retired four-time NASCAR champ said Truex’s dominant feat last weekend should be rewarded, not decried as bad for the sport because of the way he cruised against no true competition in the Coca-Cola 600. Truex’s record romp was one of the stock car ages – he led 392 of 400 laps, set a Sprint Cup record for miles led in a race with 588, and his 160.655 mph run in the No. 78 Toyota made the race the fastest one in Coke history.
