Georgia’s conservative Olympic outfit scorned by women’s rights activists

Inspired by the national costume, the outfit has been a major talking point in the former Soviet republic over the past few days, with many taking to social media to complain it projected the wrong image of the nation abroad. “It’s very archaic and conservative,” said Baia Pataraia from the Georgian Women Movement.

PARIS (AP) — French luxury giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton is selling its Donna Karan and DKNY clothing brands to U.S. group G-III Apparel in a $650 million deal.

French luxury group LVMH said Monday it had sold ready-to-wear group Donna Karan International to US clothing manufacturer G-III Apparel in a transaction that values the company at $650 million (592 million euros). The move will see ownership of the Donna Karan and DKNY brands return to New York where they were launched by the US designer in the 1980s. “Donna Karan International is an iconic global fashion company,” said Morris Goldfarb, chief executive of G-III, which owns the Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger labels.

French luxury group LVMH said Monday it had sold ready-to-wear group Donna Karan International to US clothing manufacturer G-III Apparel in a transaction that values the company at $650 million (592 million euros). The collaboration, although unconfirmed by both parties, is expected be revealed this fall during New York Fashion Week, following Wang’s runway show on September 10. The partnership, if true, would be in keeping with Adidas’s strategy to merge high fashion with its sporty DNA over recent years — an initiative that was kickstarted back in 2004 when Stella McCartney joined forces with the brand to create what has become a fruitful high-end sportswear line.

Former New York Yankees baseball star Derek Jeter must face a trial over claims he defrauded the Swedish company that makes $100 Frigo brand underwear out of millions of dollars, a judge ruled on Tuesday. The former All-Star shortstop has been locked in a legal dispute with RevolutionWear, a maker of luxury underwear that brought Jeter on as a director and investor with a 15 percent stake in 2011. The judge, Vice Chancellor Sam Glasscock, found that Jeter must defend allegations that he fraudulently induced RevolutionWear into an agreement by concealing terms of an endorsement deal with Nike Inc.

US department store Macy’s has expanded its apparel collaboration with songstress Thalia Sodi to include a sleepwear and intimates collection, which is set to launch from this month. Burberry names Gobbetti as next chief executive
Burberry appointed Celine chairman Marco Gobbetti as its next chief executive on Monday, replacing Christopher Bailey who will become the British luxury fashion group’s new president. Gobbetti, currently the chairman and chief executive of French luxury brand Celine, will join the board in 2017 “as soon as he is contractually able to do so”, Burberry said in a statement. Burberry announced a fall in annual net profits in May, triggering a three-year programme of cost savings totalling at least £100 million ($130 million, 117 million euros).

The contemporary ready-to-wear line will go on sale initially at department stores including Selfridges, Galeries Lafayette and Matchesfashion.com, as well as via its own online retail site.
