Brooke Mueller’s Family “Very Concerned” About Her Future

By ZACH JOHNSON & BETH SOBOL for E News.

It’s been a rough couple of days for Brooke Mueller.

According to TMZ, Mueller took her 7-year-old twins with Charlie Sheen to a bar in Salt Lake City Tuesday. While there, Mueller reportedly got into an argument with the children’s nanny. Police were called, but Mueller fled the scene before authorities could interview her. The Utah Department of Public Safety confirmed Wednesday that Mueller and twins had been reported missing. “I’m just trying to get my kids home safe,” Sheen, who split with the actress in 2010, told TMZ. Mueller, 39, was found soon after, then hospitalized on a three-day psychiatric hold.

The Salt Lake City Police Department said no criminal charges would be filed against Mueller, as it turned into a welfare check. “Everyone is accounted for and safe,” a rep told E! News.

The actress has struggled for years with mental health issues and substance abuse. “The situation is very simple: This is a woman who can’t get sober,” one of Mueller’s friends tells E! News. “She’s no different than millions of other people who struggle with addiction every day. People are focusing on the details of the story, but the plain fact is that when someone can’t get sober, all kinds of unfortunate things happen like what’s happened in the past few days.”

Addiction is a dangerous disease, and Mueller tried to make positive changes—like relocating from to Utah to “get away” from the Hollywood scene and stay on the straight and narrow. “She was very committed to being a good mom,” her friend says. “She even joined the P.T.A.”

Mueller was awarded primary physical custody after her two-year marriage ended. “The boys have always been with her,” the friend tells E! News. “She has nannies and her mother visits.” With Mueller in the midst of a psychiatric hold, her boys are with two nannies, the friend says.

What the incident means for her future is unclear. “Right now, her family is in a tough position. On the one hand, you want to help, but you don’t want to enable,” Mueller’s friend says. “And at the end of the day, they need to live their own lives. Her mom is very concerned right now.”

Sheen, meanwhile, wrote a poem for People in light of recent events.

“In the face of a roughshod and polar moment of unsanctioned divide, sanity and certainty were restored with grace and resolve,” the famously verbose actor, 51, wrote Thursday. “Immeasurable gratitude and love to a fellow yeoman of the apocalypse; sir Michael from that hamlet called Walters, need accept each and every Crimson palm-sting, as high fives rain upon his bitchen nobility, not just from this traveler, but from his safe and stable brood as well…”
