PlayStation Communities App Now Available On Android

Earlier this week, Sony launched PlayStation Communities, an Android app designed to help PS4 owners communicate with their friends and online acquaintances regardless of where they are. As the name suggests, this app has been designed around online gaming communities. Once you open it, you’ll be prompted to log in with your PlayStation Entertainment Network account. After you do that, the app presents you with a simple user interface which showcases your communities and lets you discover new ones. Apart from doing a regular search query, you can also find communities based on groups your friends are already a part of and games that specific communities are playing. In addition to that, Sony’s latest Android app also conveniently lists all currently trending communities worldwide.

Once you’ve joined a group or several groups of like-minded PS4 owners, you can use the app to start posting on the Community Wall, view popular posts by using the “Message of the day” feature and chat with other users. Naturally, PlayStation Communities supports push notifications which can be adjusted for each individual community. As John Koller, VP of PlayStation Brand Marketing at Sony explained it, the primary goal of this app is to help people connect with fellow PS4 owners who have similar interests to them. For example, if you’re looking for someone willing to play Uncharted’s new co-op survival mode for five hours straight, you can simply locate the largest Uncharted community and tell people what you’re after. It’s a simple idea, but Sony executed it efficiently as the app seemingly works just like it was supposed to.
