Philadelphia Flyers come from behind to beat Boston Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers came into this game having had less regular season success against the Boston Bruins than any other team in the NHL since 1967. The Flyers entered the TD Garden on Wednesday looking to end a six-game losing streak against the Bruins. Coming into this game, the Flyers had not won in Boston since a 2-1 victory on October. 6, 2011 and had a .433 point percentage in their 186 regular-season games against the Bruins. Bruins enjoyed a good rest prior to their game against the Flyers as they’ve been off since their 5-3 win over Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. On the other hand, Flyers were in action on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 at home to Dallas Stars.

Replacing the injured Michal Neuvirth after the first period, Mason prevented David Pastrnak from making it 5-2 by pulling off a superb save at a time with 8:32 left in the game. A video review proved that the puck did not cross the line.

Before Giroux one-timed a shot past, the Flyers overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period. After Mason’s superb save, Claude Giroux and Wayne Simmonds scored for the Flyers to take the game into overtime. A second goal from Claude Giroux in overtime helped the Philadelphia Flyers claim a 5-4 win over Boston Bruins on Wednesday night. With Ryan Spooner off for hooking, the Bruins were short-handed.

For the Flyers, Pierre Edouard Bellamare and Sam Gagner also scored goals. For the bruins, who lost their first four games at home this season, Chris Kelly, Jimmy Hayes, Brett Connolly, and Patrice Bergeron were on the score sheet. After the first period, Philadelphia’s starting goaltender Michal Neuvirth left the game. He wasn’t on the bench for the rest of the game even though there weren’t any reports of an injury.

This was a game in which Bruins forward Zac Rinaldo suited up against his former Philadelphia Flyers teammates on Wednesday night at TD Garden but he didn’t play more than one period. Rinaldo was ejected at the end of the first period, for a hit on Flyers center Sean Couturier along the boards in the Philly zone. Wednesday’s loss by the Bruins means that they still haven’t won a game at home.

Boston BruinsIn other NHL games, Edmonton Oilers defeated Detroit Red Wings 3-1 to make it three wins on the bounce. 18-year-old number one draft pick Connor McDavid starred as he grabbed his fourth goal of the campaign.

Before beating the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 in a shootout at First Niagara Center, the Buffalo Sabres trailed for 54 minutes. 88 seconds into the game, Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau gave Maple Leafs the lead. Evander Kane equalized with four minutes 29 seconds left to prolong the game while Tyler Ennis and Matt Moulson hit the target in the shootout for the Sabres. In the day’s final game, Carolina Hurricanes defeated Colorado Avalanche 1-0 as Victor Rask took just one minute 49 seconds of overtime to score.
