(Review and update on Saturday’s car Crash)
A horrific incident took place in the OSU homecoming celebration on Saturday. As described by one of the witnesses, a car plunged into the masses after colliding with a parked police motorcycle. From a distance, fans saw the car smashing into the crowd, hitting everyone in the way. There was panic and smoke all around. People were running for their lives. The police have slammed Adacia Chambers – the woman accused of all the chaos, 47 injuries, and 4 deaths in the incident– with murder charges. Among the four dead were 65 year old Marvin Stone, a retired OSU professor and researcher; the 65 year old Bonnie, Marvin’s wife; 2 year old Nash Lucas, son of an OSU employee, Nicollet Strauch; and 23 year old Nikita Prabhakar, an MBA student at the University of Central Oklahoma.
According to Tony Coleman, Chambers lawyer, the suspect was neither under the influence of alcohol nor drugs. He believes that the suspect is mentally ill. She only remembers bits and pieces of the incident – the end of the crash, people moving her out of the car, and chips of glass lying everywhere. He thinks Adacia probably might have blacked out. Tony went on to justify her actions by saying that there has been a history of mental illness in the Chambers’ family. He has seen warning signs coming from Adacia Chambers for quite some time now. And he will request a mental health evaluation for Mrs. Chambers on Monday, when she will appear before the judge.
Adacia Chambers worked at a franchise restaurant in Stillwater. One of her co-workers, who did not want to be identified, was shocked to hear Adacia’s involvement in the crash. The co-worker stated that Adacia was generally mature and responsible. The co-worker also said that Chambers was secretive in nature and was not as loud and social as the others. When asked if there was any noticeable change in Chambers’ behavior of late, the co-worker denied the claim and said she worked this morning although other people said she seemed to be on drugs.
For the 7 year old Madison Atwell, a survivor of the crash, it was her first experience in the OSU homecoming celebration. In the words of the survivor’s aunt, the kid was enjoying the homecoming in Stillwater with the crowd when a woman spotted a car racing toward them. The woman, with the intention of saving Madison, swiftly pushed her out of the way. And bang! The woman lost her life and Madison survived with six broken ribs, a concussion, and a few stitches. After the horrific incident, worried loved ones were waiting to hear the results of the surgeries and tests performed on the victims, who were lying unconsciously in a critical condition in the hospital.
People were thankful to the doctors across the state for their full cooperation, love, and care for the victims. A candlelight vigil held at OSU on Sunday night drew more than 1,000 people. Counselors and therapy dogs were also available on campus for students and staff on Monday. If convicted, Adacia Chambers will be given life imprisonment, said the police.
