Chloë Grace Moretz is all set to be the next Ariel in the live action film called ‘The Little Mermaid’. The first report of the news came from Variety. Later, the actress took to her Instagram account to confirm the news. She posted a screenshot of the article. “Here it is!! I’ve been waiting months to tell everyone how excited I am to take on this beautiful journey with Working Title, Universal, and a beautiful script by Richard Curtis”, quoted Chloë.
Still a long road for the movie
Though there isn’t much information about who else will be starring in the movie, audience is already excited. The script of the movie has been written by Richard Curtis. Previously, Curtis wrote and directed “About Time” and “Love Actually”. His writing ventures also include “War horse” and “Bridget Jones’ Diary”. As the production process is about to commence, the movie is still in search of a director. His most recent venture includes “Trash” which starred Rooney Mara in it.
As per the initial reports earlier, it was Sofia Coppola who was supposed to take up the project. But the acclaimed director, producer and screenwriter exited and withdrew from the project in June. The reason mentioned at that time was the constant creative differences. But, if reports are to be believed, Sofia actually left the movie because she was not willing to work with Chloë Grace Moretz.
After Coppola’s unlikely exit, the studio still wanted Moretz to play the leading role in the movie but did not want to make it official until they had found a perfect writer for it.
The movie will be a fresh portrayal of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Little Mermaid”. Also, it probably will have an absolutely different interpretation of the Disney version. Thus, we can very much expect a new name for the mermaid instead of Ariel. But the core story remains the same- a beautiful mermaid wishing to become a human after falling in love with a man she saved from drowning.
No release date has been given yet, but the movie will go into the production phase soon. Penned by Richard Curtis, the movie will hopefully have a strong supporting cast.
Chloë Grace Moretz has a lot on her plate already
As the movie awaits a director, other projects keep Moretz busy. Currently, she is shooting “Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising” for Universal with Zac Efron, Seth Rogen and Selena Gomez. She also recently wrapped “Brain on Fire” and will be featured in Sony’s “The Fifth Wave”. Her movie “November Criminals” is all set to release next year.
Moretz has been acting since she was 8. She has been in several movies including “Hugo”, “500 days of Summer”, and “Amityville Horror”. She has also made cameos in TV shows like “Desperate Housewives” and “30 rock”.
She was praised for her movie “If I Stay” which was released last year. It will be interesting to see how Chloë turns around her own version of Ariel.
