The best part about the American Music Awards this year was not the actual show but the moments that sewed it together and followed later. The 2015 American Music Awards had everything to make the event enthralling.

The best part about the American Music Awards this year was not the actual show but the moments that sewed it together and followed later. The 2015 American Music Awards had everything to make the event enthralling.

American Music Awards: Glory, Glitter and Glamour

The show honored some of the best music talents around. One Direction took home the most coveted honor of the night, as they received the fan-voted Artist of the Year award for the second year in a row. The boy band, now minus Zayn Malik, seems to have the charm on their audience even with one man down. Country artist Sam Hunt won the trophy in the all-genre New Artist of the Year category. Taylor Swift’s “Blank Space” won the Song of the Year award, and her album 1989 won the award for Favorite Album in the Pop/Rock category.

Before all the accolades and honors, the host for the night, Jennifer Lopez, burnt up the stage with her steamy dance performances during the montage of the year’s biggest hits. Glittering the show throughout were scintillating performances by some big names including Gwen Stefani, Ariana Grande, Carrie Underwood, 5 Seconds Of Summer, Justin Bieber, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Leon Bridges, Demi Lovato, Walk The Moon, Coldplay, Selena Gomez, Nick Jonas, One Direction, and The Weekend. The ensemble of artists kept the night alive and enlightened.

Show-Stealers and Shocking Moments

Some of the moments on the American Music Awards stage are sure to remain etched in the minds of viewers for a long time. Topping the list will be Meghan Trainor and Charlie Puth gyrating on “Marvin Gaye” and “Like I’m Going to Lose You” and ending the performance with a steamy make-out session that totally wasn’t scripted. The show had one-of-a-kind duets which included Alanis Morissette and Demi Lovato singing Morissette’s 1995 breakthrough hit, “You Oughta Know” and Luke Bryan and Little Big Town’s Karen Fairchild singing their new song “Home Alone Tonight.”

But the highlight of the show was Celine Dion’s tribute to Paris attack victims, which was preceded by an equally moving introduction by Jared Leto. “France matters. Russia matters. Syria matters. Mali matters. The Middle East matters. The United States matters. The entire world matters, and peace is possible,” said Leto. The words were followed by Celine Dion giving an excellent, emotional and moving rendition of Edith Piaf’s “Hymne a L’amour.” By the end of the performance, a lot of attendees were in tears.

The show was closed by Justin Bieber dancing and singing in the rain. He sang an acoustic version of “What Do You Mean” and showed some stunning moves on “Where Are You Now” and “Sorry” in the downpour. Bieber assured that the show ended on an equally high note.
