Universal recently released the much awaited The Huntsman: Winter’s War poster. The movie is a sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, but this time without the Snow White. One can expect a trailer coming up in a week or two.
The movie will be released on April 22, 2016. Being a sequel to the highly successful Snow White and the Huntsman, the movie this time will not have Snow White as its lead character. Kristen Stewart will not be portraying the character anymore, and hence is not a part of the sequel. This time, the movie is made while focusing on Chris Hemsworth’s character, the Huntsman.
Frozen or Huntsman? Scratch Your Heads
Earlier, when it was announced that there would be a sequel to the movie, no one would have thought that the movie would not have Kristen Stewart. After all, one will surely find it funny rather than sad that the lead character of the movie, who was supposed to pioneer the franchise, is no longer a part of the series. But then, it is Hollywood, and one should hardly be surprised.
Snow White and the Huntsman earned extensively worldwide, cashing in around $395 million worldwide on a budget of $175 million. The sequel, with its early looks released, looks like a female-centric fantasy. The movie will have the handsome hunk Chris Hemsworth, who will be surrounded by Hollywood’s three biggest female leads.
The ensemble cast will have Charlize Theron reprising her role as the evil queen along with Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt, but now, as the posters of the movie are out, audiences have a lot of question lingering around. The first question is, why does the poster have such a stark resemblance to the Frozen poster, and do the makers want to build a snowman?
The poster looks nothing like a movie titled The Huntsman: Winter’s War and seems to be coming straight out of the ice age. Emily Blunt’s Ice Queen looks exactly (yes we mean it when we say exactly) like Frozen’s Elsa. And as far as one can predict, her superpowers will be exactly like the last year released $1 billion blockbuster movie. Another issue that seems to linger is whether the resemblance is intentional or a fluke. Looking at the poster, it seems more intentional.
The movie will be directed by debutante Cedric Nicolas-Troyan. Universal has taken a big risk by handing over the responsibilities for a major franchise to a first-time director. The movie is being produced by Joe Roth, who has been previously associated with hit fantasies like Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent. Written by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos, the movie seems overly inspired by Frozen.
Will Universal Manage to Cash in?
Well, if Universal manages to convince the audience that the movie is a different kind of interpretation or a live-action version of Frozen, it can certainly cash in on the popularity of the latter. To see how the project unfolds, one needs to wait till April 22, 2016. Universal already has nothing to lose, let’s see what it wins.
