Muku Lab’s Shuttr: the camera remote control for iPhone and Android

Muku Lab’s Shuttr

With the selfie craze plaguing the world today, new devices are created each day in order to assist the selfie game and enable individuals to rock a glamorous selfie. Smartphones come in limited varieties and designs. Some are too blurry, just not clear enough for perfection, or just too slow in the processing. Either way, these hurdles have been cleared thanks to Muku Lab’s Shuttr.

Shuttr is a tiny Bluetooth remote controlled shutter meant for Android and iPhone devices and created by the Hong Kong based company Muku Labs. Designed specially with care and intent towards creative minds, Shuttr gives photographers the option to have more control over pictures taken on their smartphone. Created by Hong Kong based engineer Kevin Leung, who revealed as a child that his family weren’t well-to-do enough to get a camera, hence depriving him the chance of any family pictures before he was a toddler. Kevin’s mother left him at a young age without many images left of her, which pushed in him the determination to capture as many images of his wife and daughter as possible while he still can.

However, the frustration of not finding a quality smartphone shutter that appealed to him made him quit his job to build a remote shutter that people would like. He said he was determined to build the shutter he believed “was missing in the market,” and so he teamed up with electronic engineer Sea Zheng, industrial engineer Boge Chen, and logistic expert Scott Moore. All spent a year developing the Muku Shuttr.

The Muku Shuttr is a small 61x26x6mm sized device weighing about 10g and designed to work with smartphone cameras. As we all know, the majority of smartphone users are always looking out for portability when picking up a device. The Muku Shuttr is on the correct spectrum when it comes to that. The Shuttr is barely noticeable when carried alongside your smartphone.

For most phones, the Shuttr doesn’t need an app for engagement, the iPhone’s volume button syncs with the Shuttr release button, which doubles as the iPhone’s Shuttr release when in the camera app. Shuttr works with all 3GS iPhones and later, iPod touches(starting from the fifth generation onwards), and all iPads dating from the iPad 2.

Shuttr works just fine with Android as well. It works with the Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4, Galaxy Notes 2, 8, and 10.01, and the LG nexus 4 without an app. However, an app is needed for the HTC One and OneX+, and Sony Experia’s S and Z. These are the trusted and tested devices advised by Muku to work with the Shuttr.

Shuttr goes beyond arm’s length when it comes to taking selfies, with the ability to go up a range of 10meters — about 30 feet — and the Bluetooth does not necessarily require a direct line sight to work.

Generally, this device is a great device for smartphone photography, as it reaches out and breaks most barriers. It is perfect for the selfie addict or overall smartphone photographer.
