Wine a piece of night’s glory and day’s grace poured in a glass. There are alcoholic drinks and then there is this smooth drink called wine. And in wine, there is a majestic variant that can be the undisputed leader of the community; that is red wine. None of the alcoholic drinks have been known to have benefits like red wine. There is a component of good health and the drink benefits not only tour emotions but also your heart, health-wise. Many a time people have asked the question that, if drinking red wine is so healthy why not have grape juice itself? Grape Juice does not consist of alcohol too. Well, your answer is here.
Red Wine and the marvelous health benefits
Red Wine has more health benefits to offer rather than grape juice. As in the making of wine, there is an extensive process of fermentation involved; it changes the shape and structure of the fruit. It changes the makeup of the juice and uses skin of the grape which contains healthy anti-oxidants. The benefits if the marvelous drink have been certified by Dr. Antonia Trichopoulou, a professor and director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Center for Nutrition at the University Of Athens School Of Medicine in Greece. As per her studies, the color of the wine indicates how much healthful and helpful a wine is. The more red the wine is the more polyphenols will be in the drink. Due to this logic, Red Wine has more polyphenols than white and white has more than a bottle of beer. This fact has been concluded by Dr. Miguel Ángel Martínez González of the University of Navarra in Spain.
Though Red Wine contains alcohol but if drank in moderation (yes it is difficult bit it is highly necessary), the drink has some exemplary health benefits. The beverage reduces the risk of coronary heart disease by increasing levels of healthy HDL cholesterol and reducing the clumping of platelets that can lead to clots inside blood vessels. Another important component that decides the benefits of wine is resveratrol. The component is also present in grape juice but the naturally occurring levels are too low to have a matured effect on your health. “There’s a tremendous variability in the amount of resveratrol even from one wine type and one batch to another”, says Leonard Guarente, who studies the biology of aging at M.I.T.
Grape Juice v/s Red Wine: The Battle is On!
Another problem with having grape juice is that it is high on sugar. The sugar content will harm your health more rather than nurturing it. Also, be it a kid or a grown up, they tend to have grape juice in huge quantity and due to sugar levels, it would be very unhealthy. As per Sara Baer-Sinnott, president of Oldways, a nutrition organization that advocates eating the Mediterranean diet, “Grape juice is a good thing in moderation”. Red Wine is known for the health benefits but the same cannot be said for grape juice. “There may be some synergy between resveratrol and something else present in the wine and not in the grape juice,” says Dr. Guarente
