Seahawks riding luck as they advance to the divisional round

If it was not for their luck, Russell Wilson and the Seattle Seahawks would have been all but out. They will now face Panthers at Carolina next weekend.

The Settle Seahawks need more than three quarters and they got their prayers answered when Vikings threw away their best chance to date to defeat two-time defending NFC champions. Seahawks won the game with 10-9 in what was a wild-card round playoff game in below-zero weather.

Seahawks have once again proved that being good is what can get you wins in the NFL but being lucky is even better. Blair Walsh would have been banging his head to the wall after missing a 27-yard chip shot, which would have put the Vikings through. It would have been Vikings’ first playoff victory since 2009 but it just was not meant to be their day.

Walsh’s teammate Hauschka however has some kind words for his kicking counterpart.

“It’s kind of a sick feeling you have when you see something like that happen,” Hauschka said quietly in the locker room. “You miss one kick and everyone’s on you.”

The Seahawks are famous for having the God of luck on their sides and they have won games in the past which no one would have predicted going their way. Vikings franchise on the other hand, seems cursed with a profusion of bad luck. The result against Seahawks have left a bad taste among the fans of the franchise and it would be a while before they will get over this sad exit from the playoffs.

Vikings were the better of the two teams on Sunday. They were in control of the game from the first minute and were favourites to win the game and they should have won. But luck was with the Seahawks once more and they rode their luck to victory.

Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman thanked God for their last minute victory. He said that Vikings were trying to run down the clock and looked set to clinch the victory. However he believes that football Gods were with them today and it was meant to be their day

“It looked dire. They ran the clock down, took the field goal, short chip shot. But the football gods were with us today… ‘Thank you, Jesus. That (feeling) was immediate.”

Even before the missed 27-yard chip shot in the end, Seahawks were riding on their luck.

Wilson added that in football, anything can happened and that is exactly what happened today. The Seattle Seahawks were very fortunate to get the result according to him.

“We were fortunate, very fortunate,” Wilson said. “Anything can happen in the playoffs.”

Walsh has been in a bad mood ever since but has been urged to keep his head up by Peterson. It was Walsh whose three made field goals took the team to the very end. If it was not for those goals, the Vikings would not have been in a position for the game-winning field goal in the end.
