When Wolfgang puck talks about cooking, you listen, and you listen well, because he has some smart lessons to give about the art that goes into cooking. In November, when he visited his namesake restaurant, Wolfgang Puck Steak at MGM Grand Detroit, he discussed with the media about his plans to open an online school. The dream is finally true, as the restaurateur and cookbook author is ready with the details.
He announced the details of his new website, wolfgangpuckcookingschool.com. “This is really a live version of a cookbook. The content can grow immensely. Maybe three years from now we’ll have 1,000 recipes. The visual is so important in cooking. We not only want the dish to taste good, but also look good,” says Wolfgang Puck. He also wants people to use mobile devices to read rather than paper books.
Puck brings a unique style of teaching
The online school has been designed to teach newbie chefs and enhance their skills. It will also benefit the experts and help them hone their skills. The online school will have a library of recipes, and it will also allow users to add their own. An additional subscription will also offer meal-planning tools and cooking courses that will be added weekly. The users will also have access to an online community so that all members can communicate via forums, submit their own recipes, and win prizes. The best part about the online school is that you get an opportunity to interact directly with Wolfgang. You can talk to the maestro, learn, and have your recipes featured. “I want it to be as interactive as possible. I’m very interested in what people say and what people think,” says Puck.
The school was launched on Monday, January 11, and the users are getting a free 14-day trial. After the free trial, the membership fee will be $9.95 per month or $ 99.50 per year. Puck retorts to his usual fun persona and easily explains the tools, techniques, and timing needed to create the perfect poached egg. Yes, basics are what he is focusing on. He imparts lessons on what should be added, what salt should be used, and how much time it will take. The two and a half minute video is enough to prove that Puck’s lessons will not be your regular, learn-the-procedure recipes.
Wolfgang Puck and his cooking style unleashed
Puck chose his MGM Detroit restaurant because of his success in the city with his restaurant chain. He wants Detroit to be the culinary center. “I want to help people to cook better and help to cook healthier at home,” says Wolfgang.
It is not the first time that there has been an online class for an art. Masterclass.com gives online lessons for singers, athletes, writers, and actors. It charges $90 per course and has lessons from Usher, author James Patterson, Dustin Hoffman, or Serena Williams. Courses are also taught by Kevin Spacey, Christina Aguilera, and Annie Leibovitz. Since its launch in May, around 30,000 people have signed in for the classes.
