Rousey has requested additional time as she recovers from that knockout at UFC 193 and won’t be making an appearance at UFC 200 on July 9.
It was being expected that Ronda Rousey will make her first appearance at UFC since her infamous defeats at the hands of Holly Holm on July 9 at UFC 200. However, UFC president Dana White has informed reporters that it won’t be the case as Rousey has asked for more time off. White said that Rousey needs more time before her expected rematch with Holly Holm in the summer but the rematch would not take place in the month of July.
Ronda Rousey is busy filming “Road House” and the remake has not been delayed which has forced the UFC fighter to take some more time off from the ring. Dana White added that it is possible that Ronda could do both at the same time but why should she push herself so hard.
“The filming of the movie got pushed back,” White said on Tuesday. “She could do both, but the question is, should she do both? She could do both, but why should she? The filming is in a time frame where she’d finish before [UFC] 200, but it would be cutting it too close.”
Rousey has had a busy 2015 in which she underwent three fights in addition to the release of her two films, Entourage and Fast and Furious 7. She will now be hosting another gig on Saturday Night Live and will be busy filming Road House in addition to her planned project of Mile 22 with Mark Wahlberg. All these commitments of her has made her rematch with Holly Holm even tougher than it was being anticipated before.
On the other hand, Holm will soon be busy defending her title for the first time. She will be up against Miesha Tate at UFC 197 on March 5. It would be the co-main event for the night with Conor McGregor taking on Rafael dos Anjos in the other fight for the lightweight title.
UFC President Dana White has however did not mention when Ronda Rousey will be back in the ring at UFC. She has happily grant her extra time because she believes that Ronda has worked really hard over the past few years to get where she is now and she deserves this much needed break.
“The way I look at this one is, Ronda has worked her ass off for us for the last three years. She’s been fighting, promoting and building the sport. If anyone deserves the time off, it’s her,” White said. “What that woman has done is above and beyond what anyone has done. I mean, it’s just unbelievable what she’s done in the last three years.”
White added that if a person like Ronda says she needs more time, you got to give it to her.
“So when she tells me she wants more time, you know what? She’s got it.”
