Banning Trump from UK would make him a political Martyr

In a three hour long House of Commons debate, the MPs came to conclusion that while Trump’s anti-Muslims sentiments are a danger for entire world, banning him should not be the solution.

The UK House of Commons was entertaining a petition having more than 574,000 signatures calling for a ban on the United States Presidential hopeful Donald Trump, from entering United Kingdom. The session took three hours with MPs arguing their case, both in favor and against the idea of banning Trump from entering their shores.

The debate was carried out in a packed Westminster Hall committee room but it ended without a vote. Paul Flynn was of the view that banning Trump will give the world impression that United Kingdom is anti-American and would send a wrong message about their tolerance. However, MP Tasmina Ahmed Sheikh of SNP backed the petition stating that the US presidential hopeful should be banned on the basis of religious intolerance.

Home Office minister James Brokenshire said that it is the power of the government to ban any individual who can put harm to the country. However, the United States is an ally of the UK and taking such step could harm the relationship between two countries, especially considering the fact that Donald Trump is a strong candidate to become the next US president.

Donald Trump was criticized worldwide when he claimed that banning Muslims from entering United States would reduce the risk of terrorism in the US. However, he did not stop there and added that there are parts in London and other areas of the United Kingdom have become a no-go area for the police because they have become radicalized in recent years.

This gave motive to the idea behind “Ban Trump” petition, which states that in the past, UK has banned many individuals from entering the shores and same rules must be applied to everyone, including Donald Trump over his anti-Muslims remarks.

Labour Party’s MP Jack Dromey called Donald Trump a fool and said that he should not be allowed anywhere near UK.

“I don’t think Donald Trump should be allowed within 1,000 miles of our shores. Donald Trump is free to be a fool but he is not free to be a dangerous fool in Britain.”

Another Labour MP Naz Shah invited Donald Trump to visit her constituency and challenged him for an argument on his views.

“I would give Donald Trump an open invitation to visit my constituency… I would invite him for a curry. I would welcome him, have a conversation with him and challenge him on his views.”

After the debate over the petition, Trump International Links Scotland issued a statement slamming MPs for interfering in another country’s domestic matter and urged them to focus instead on the Scottish and UK economies.

“For the UK to consider banning someone who made a statement in America, about American borders during a US election campaign is ridiculous,” said Sarah Malone
