In its short stint as a hardware manufacturer, Microsoft has not failed to amaze us. When they promised three years ago that their Surface tablet could replace your laptop, everyone was skeptical about that possibility, but after the release of Surface Pro 3, Microsoft have been improving the formula and now is one of the best manufacturers of hybrids, surpassing veteran computer manufacturers in this regard.
The new Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 are nothing short of glorious. To begin with, Microsoft have addressed the issue of storage. For many people, the laptop is their primary storage device. That is where all your documents, photos, movies, music, and everything else is stored. The 500GB offered in most of the laptops on the market is just not enough, thus requiring the use of external drives for additional storage. Alternatively, you could also pay for cloud storage. But what if you want all your files in one place? These new hybrids from Microsoft go a long way toward solving the issue by providing that extra 512 GB of storage to bring the total storage capacity to 1TB, which should be sufficient for most folks.
“We’re excited to announce that the most powerful versions yet of Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 are now on sale in the United States and Canada. These products feature 1TB of storage with 6th Generation Intel Core i7 processors and 16GB of RAM for the ultimate in performance and versatility,” read a blog from Microsoft.
The extra space will cost you, though, and it’s a hefty price indeed. The 1TB Surface Book will retail at $3,199 while the Surface Pro 4 will cost you $2,699. That’s a $500 premium over the 512GB Surface Book and Surface Pro 4.The 1TB Surface Book will only be available online from either Microsoft or select retailers, but the 1TB Surface Pro 4, in addition to being available online from either Microsoft or select retailers, can also be bought from numerous other retailers.
In addition to the new laptop configurations, Microsoft will be unveiling a new Surface pen with a stylish design that the company promises will be a powerful tool for both creativity and productivity. It will cost you $59.99 and comes with the Surface Pen Tip Kit, a pack of four unique friction tips tailored for writing and drawing.
With a 6th Generation Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB or RAM, futuristic design, outstanding display graphics, seamless tablet separation and now a boosted storage of 1TB, the new Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 are on a whole new, different level as far as hybrids are concerned. They bring many technological innovations to the laptop space. Their strength lies in the fact that, all in all, they are all-around great devices. One con is that the hybrids’ battery life falls short of what is promised.
Microsoft is staying the course with their promise to replace your laptop. It will not be long before consumers start to ditch their big, heavier laptops for the thin, sleek and portable hybrids such as the Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. Other veteran PC manufacturers will need to increase their efforts to ensure that they move in this direction.
