Steven Gerrard wishes he was still a Liverpool player

The Los Angeles Galaxy player has talked in depth about his affection for Liverpool, a club where he has spent his entire career before sealing a switch to LA Galaxy in the end of his career.

The former England international was signed by the MLS outfit in order to fill the void left by the departure of fan-favorite David Beckham. Replacing an Englishman with another Englishman seemed all too fitting at the time but is Gerrard already tired of playing in the United States? In a recently concluded interview, he revealed how he miss playing week in week out for his beloved Liverpool, a club where he played his entire career winning Champions League with them.

The 35-year-old has played 710 times for Liverpool scoring 186 goals in the process. He has a total of 10 trophies to his glittering career and he spent 26 years with the English Premier League giants. He joined LA Galaxy before the start of last season after realizing that that he would not be able to play every game for Liverpool. It was the toughest decision of his career according to the player.

“It was the toughest decision of my life.”

Gerrard added that it has been more than a year but he still can’t get over his love for Liverpool. Not being a Liverpool player is something he never thought he would ever be and if it was up to him, he would still be playing for the Reds in the Premier League.

“It’s still taking time to settle and sink in that I’m not a Liverpool player anymore,” he tells Goal.

He further added that he wanted to end his career with Liverpool but nothing is certain in football and that is what happened here.

However, Gerrard is not letting that affect his playing career with LA Galaxy. He is happy with the choices he made and he feels proud to be a LA Galaxy player.

“It was hard and it still is hard to pull away as it’s been such a big part of my life. I walked into the doors of Liverpool with my kit on in 1987 as an eight-year-old kid just happy to be there, never imagining all the things that were to come. I’m so appreciative of the career that I’ve had and the opportunity to be a part of what I feel is the best club in the world.”

But despite the fact that he is enjoying his time with LA Galaxy, one of the most popular soccer franchise in the United States, the memories of Liverpool are still there. It is impossible for Gerrard to switch off a 26-year highlights reel. He is not focused to help his new club achieve its targets in the MLS and has vowed to win many trophies during his time in the US. He can’t be as successful with LA Galaxy as he was with Liverpool but the fans in Europe are guaranteed to see a class player for another year.
