The NBA legend ended his career on a high note after West All-Stars registered an astonishing 196-173 high scoring victory over the East All-Stars this Saturday night.
Anthony Davis, Kevin Durant and Stephen Curry made sure that Kobe Bryant wins his final NBA All-Star Game on Saturday night. Bryant might have played his final game but one thing that was pretty obvious from the All-Star game was that the young players now taking over are not that bad either.
It was a high scoring game that saw the West score almost 200 points in single game. East was not that much behind with 173 points to their name but the night belonged to Kobe, who has now left the arena with his head held high. And the younger players showed what the future of NBA would look like with an astonishing display of qualities to send Kobe off in style.
Talking to reporters after the game, Kobe Bryant stated just how happy he has been with the performance of the young lads whom he was playing for the last time.
“It was fun,” Bryant said. “I had a blast playing with those guys, laughing and joking with them on the bench.”
It was the first All-Star game which was played outside the United States’ borders with Toronto hosting the event this time around. Although Kobe did not offer a lot of offence this Saturday night but he did give his fans a bundle of memories that night. He finished the game with just 10 points but his coach was pleased with how it all unfolded for him and the West All-Stars team in the end.
“To see him now, it’s like the passing of a generation,” West coach Gregg Popovich said. “He’s been such an iconic figure for so long, and he passes it on to that other group of young guys that you saw out there tonight.”
People came to say Kobe Bryant play for the one last time and it did not matter to them at all how he played. Even the opposing team players were in awe of the NBA legend. Dwyane Wade of the East All-Stars heaped praise on Kobe’s glittering career and expressed his delight at the chance of playing against Bryant in his very last match.
“We all at one point in our life wanted to be Kobe in our driveways somewhere,” the East’s Dwyane Wade said. “We watched him growing up and we wanted to pay respect to him.”
Next year’s All-Star game will be played again in the United States after Canada hosted this year’s event. However, one thing will be different from the other All-Star games that took place in the US before. For the first time since 1997, the game won’t have Kobe Bryant. In 1998, Kobe made his All-Star debut in New York, a game which was also the last match of Michael Jordan. Kobe Bryant has left the Basketball arena, but he will always be present in the hearts and minds of millions of fans.
