Stephen Curry was unstoppable once more by scoring 51 points third time this season as the Golden State Warriors beat the Orlando Magic 130-114 on Thursday night.
It was another night to remember for the Warriors and Curry in particular. After scoring 43 points against, Curry made sure he cross 50 point mark this time around. He made an NBA record that night with after making 20 of 27 shots from the field, including ten 3-pointers. It’s the third time that the reigning MVP has topped 50 points making him the first player to achieve the feat since LeBron James and Dwyane Wade in 2008-09.
However, if you think that was the best moment of his night then you are wrong. Curry bested Kyle Korver’s mark of 127 straight games with a 3, which he tied while making six 3s at Miami on Wednesday night.
Coaches from both camps were all praise for the record breaking Stephen Curry. Warriors coach Steve Kerr was raving about the form Curry is in even before the game.
“For Steph, it’s just like making a basket in 127 games. It doesn’t matter that it’s a 3. That is like a layup to him. It’s not surprising at all,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said before the game.
“I don’t know that the record is that significant because it’s so simple for him. A 3-point shot is like a layup. A half-court shot is like a 3-point shot. Steph just — that’s what he does. It’s to the point where we expect everything to go.”
If we include post-season as well, Stephen Curry has now made 3s in a record number of 149 games straight, which is another record itself. Orlando coach Scott Skiles also heaped praise on the player for the way he played on the court that night.
“I have a hard time seeing how that streak is ever going to end. It would have to be kind of a fluke night,” Orlando coach Scott Skiles said.
“This was Steph’s night,” Skiles said of Curry’s third 50-point game of the season. “He’s a great player. He tricked us so many times where he just runs, he stops, he relaxes, he stands up, and he causes you to relax. (If) you don’t have discipline, he’s gone. That happened at least a dozen times, and I’ll probably see almost 20 times when I look at the tape.”
“It’s one thing watching him, and it’s another thing when you’re actually on the court with him playing,” Magic forward Aaron Gordon added. “I think that the rate he makes 3s and how consistently he can do it throughout the entire game is incredible. … It’s unheard of, but he’s going to make the league better. That’s what he’s going to do and that’s what he’s doing right now.”
Warriors will take on Oklahoma City on Saturday to improve to 52-5 on the season. While Orlando magic will be at New York this Friday night.
