Hollywood women tone down the Oscars red carpet look

Has feminism gone too far? No question can be more legitimate after the Oscars red carpet. See, we get it. It is a good thing to address important issues, but sometimes we all overdo it. This year’s Oscars red carpet had some of the dullest of dresses and gowns, and we know the agenda. It was decided that no more the women will be asked what they were wearing, but that surely did not mean that the red carpet looks weren’t taken seriously. Fashion is not subjective to gender, and it is more of an expression of individualism. Whatever happened to that?

As expected, Oscars were a star studded affair. But what people look forward to every year are the gorgeous designer gowns and we have compiled together all the details for you

Chris Rock addresses it aptly

The problem was quite well addressed in Chris Rock’s monologue. He nailed it when he said that everything shall not be made an issue of racism and sexism. To quote the man, “Another big thing tonight — somebody told me this — you’re not allowed to ask women what they’re wearing anymore. It’s a whole thing: #AskHerMore. ‘You have to ask her more! You ask the men more!’ Everything’s not sexism, everything’s not racism. They ask the men more because the men are all wearing the same outfits! Every guy in here is wearing the exact same thing! If George Clooney showed up with a lime green tux on, and a swan coming out of his ass, somebody would go, ‘Whatcha wearin’, George!’”

The night is big. The event matters. Why not make what you don, matter? Cate Blanchett and Alicia Vikander chose mint and lemon gowns as their red-carpet color. They literally aimed to trend an #oscarsopastel meme in support of #oscarsowhite. What exactly is your logic behind this? That people who dress well do not possess the sincerity and dedication? That one needs to actually undertone the dress to appear sensible? The last we all checked, gender equality was more about freedom of individuality and not pandering to societal norms, whether patriarchal or not.

Amidst all, few leading ladies honor the Oscars red carpet perfectly

Some women, though, did honor the red carpet. Kerry Washington wore a tight hugging, black leather dress. Other younger actresses also made their style statement clear. “Joy” actress Jennifer Lawrence wore chic black lace Dior. Saoirse Ronan wore an emerald green dress by Calvin Klein, making a remarkable appearance. Also, there were some dresses that carried the princess demeanor in corseted gowns. Actresses looked like angels as they walked wearing the same. Sofia Vergara and Reese Witherspoon wore the dresses in similar pattern and looked like little mermaids. Rachel McAdams rocked the dress with an August Getty Atelier gown. Adding to the charm and beauty was Charlotte Rampling’s dress. The pockets in the front were unique and added to the charm of her attire. Kate Winslet shone on the red carpet in her black gown. The right jewels made it just perfect. The jewelry was minimal but accentuated her look in its entirety. But eventually, what stole a million hearts at the Oscars red carpet was the way she and Leo met and greeted each other. Some serious friendship goals have been established.
