2016’S Best Value Colleges
Value doesn’t mean sacrificing a top school for a better price.
Best Value Colleges In The Northeast 2016
Why Northeast colleges are among the best in the country — and the world — isn’t much of mystery. It’s difficult to improve on excellence. And, it turns out, high value. The region houses the most (125 in total) colleges and universities on this newly revamped FORBES Best Values Colleges ranking.
Best Value Colleges In The West 2016
The ever-growing reputation of the West Coast as a innovation and jobs hub — Silicon Valley, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Seattle — now has the higher educational cred to match. Half the top 10 Best Value Colleges are found in the West, and over 30 are in California alone on the overall list of 300.

Best Value Colleges In The South 2016
Houston. Austin. Raleigh. Charlotte. Orlando. Many of the nation’s fastest-growing cities are located in the South. It’s hardly coincidental that many of these same locales are home to some of FORBES’ Best Value Colleges. Less than two hours drive from downtown Orlando is the No. 1 Southern Best Value school, University of Florida in Gainsville.
Surprise: The Colleges That Aren’t Mostly White Are Mostly Women
Of the liberal arts schools from our Best Value Colleges list, five women’s colleges are recognized as schools whose student body make-up is over 50% student of color. FORBES gathered data from the U.S. Department of Education College Scorecard and applied the findings to the select liberal arts colleges on our Best Value Colleges list. Highlighting the schools that have successfully sought out greater levels of racial diversity (as measured by “non-white Americans”) is important because while traditionally white colleges have come a long way in realizing their diversity agendas, it’s far from great news. There are only 14 non-white majority colleges on this list.

Colleges With Highest Salaries After Graduation
College is an investment, so which schools make sure you get a return? With college costs and student-debt levels reaching an all-time high, it’s important–we’d argue necessary–to think about which schools produce the highest earning alumni. For some this is a practical matter, with big earnings as a path to quickly pay off any student loans. For others, it is a matter of life ambition to move up the financial and social ladder. FORBES researched and rounded up a list of the top 25 colleges where graduating students go on to earn the highest mid-career salaries, meaning they have worked for at least 10 years.

Are Rich Colleges Better?
Are rich colleges better? Can colleges buy a reputation for high quality? In a word, yes–but within limits. We looked at endowments of 650 universities and related that to reputation, as measured by the 2015-16 Forbes Best College list. As the graph shows, schools that had large endowments typically ranked high among the 650 schools Forbes ranks, while those with meager accumulation of wealth tended to be among the lower ranking schools.
