Hillary Clinton and her dogs, as first lady and today

Daily Trendler readers around the world go all mushy when we see a fluffy bunny, a dog wagging its tail, or a talkative parrot.

Royalty and politicians from all over the globe have been known to keep pets, and despite their exhaustive schedules, they do take some time out to be with their pets, who are often pampered and bask in the reflected glory of their famous owners. From Supreme Leader of North Korea, Kim Jong-un, to the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah, who owned a black Doberman and a White West Highland Terrier, politicians have a thing for pets and are always around them whenever they are free.

U.S. Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton also happens to have a soft spot for three dogs she owns with her husband, former President Bill Clinton. Here’s a brief history of the dogs in the Clinton household, with some interesting information that is bound to make you want a pet of your own.

Seamus

Seamus the chocolate Labrador was born in February 2002, a month after the Clinton family lost their other chocolate Labrador, Buddy, who was hit by a car. Seamus is the oldest of the three and suffers from arthritis. Not much is known about the lab, since a Labrador retriever’s average life span is ten to twelve years. However, we haven’t heard any bad news on that front, which means that old boy is still alive and kicking.

Hillary was the one who introduced Seamus to the Clinton family as a four-month-old puppy as a gift to her husband. And the gift really helped Bill move on from the tragic loss of Buddy, whose loss the former president called “by far the worst thing” to happen to him since he vacated the White House.

Tally

It would have been odd if Hillary Clinton had not gotten herself a toy poodle mix. According to her aide, the former Secretary of State fell for a poodle belonging to a neighbor and bought it. Tally’s arrival has really been appreciated by Seamus, for whom she is a source of considerable entertainment.

“We got [Tally] to keep the Labrador company and to try to get the Labrador to be more energetic,” Hillary Clinton told People in 2011. “And she’s, like, bouncing all the time. And so we go on these walks and it’s great because the — our Lab, Seamus, sort of starts off kind of like an old man, just kind of very ambling and slow. And Tally, our poodle, is like, jumping up and down and then Seamus gets some energy and off he goes.”

Maisie

Maisie is the newest member of the Clinton household and is a curly-haired mutt. This poodle mix became part of the Clinton clan a few years ago. However, we don’t know much about this one, but we do know that her name comes from Clinton’s favorite novel, “Maisie Dobbs,”the story of a World War I field nurse turned detective.
