House Speaker, Paul Ryan was left seething after Republican candidate Donald Trump’s latest foul-mouthed rant on people who do not share the same heritage as him. The speaker mounted a full blown verbal assault on the entrepreneur, calling his comments over a judge presiding over a lawsuit involving his business. The judge’s ruling was not in favor of Trump which led the controversial candidate into bringing his Mexican heritage into the argument which Paul Ryan termed as “the textbook definition of a racist comment.”
Surrounded by community activists and top House GOP members, Ryan said that the reaction Trump’s latest comments had generated was undermining his efforts to implement a positive policy agenda for his party. However, Ryan says that rather than criticizing Trump he will concentrate on his agenda project.
“I disavow those comments,” Ryan said.
However, Ryan gave a hint that he did not regret endorsing for Trump but did say that his comments are an entirely different thing.
Ryan added, “I regret those comments he made.”
“It’s absolutely unacceptable,” Ryan said. But he stood by his support for the controversial business mogul. “Do I think Hillary Clinton is the answer? No I do not.”
The fallout from Trump’s comments has angered the GOP and has really cast a huge shadow over Ryan’s months of work aimed at crafting a detailed agenda plan for his party. Ryan said that his agenda plan has more in common on various policy issues with Trump and added that the issues have a better chance of becoming enacted into law through Trump than through Hillary Clinton.
The speaker also revealed that he discussed the tone of the campaign that the presumptive GOP presidential nominee has adopted but chose not to answer questions regarding the need for new staff or at least a more disciplined message.
Ryan recently made his third visit to the City of Hope House of Help center in an impoverished Washington neighborhood where he focused on how people overcome addiction and go on to become valuable members of the community.
“We wanted to start with poverty because we think this sums up our case,” he explained.
He said his GOP plan mirrors the work done at the center, saying that the focus of the program is to “not isolate the poor — they are elevating the poor.”
It must be said that despite his obvious shortcomings, the fact that Donald Trump’s campaign is failing could also be down to the fact that he was not prepared for the media scrutiny that would come his way.
After initially thriving by making critical assessments regarding how the country should be run and being extremely blunt about minorities on many forums, it appears that his way of doing thing is becoming obsolete as the Convention approaches. After avoiding close examination of a presidential primary, he has entered the general election where he is not well prepared for the most basic interactions between a candidate and the press which could derail his unique campaign.
