The Italian International will be playing for Orlando City next season after a trade with DC United, which previously held the discovery claim on the player.
The long rumored addition has been made by the Orlando City after weeks of uncertainty revolving the Italian International. Antonio Nocerino will be seen in Orlando City colors from the next season and his acquisition has left his team ecstatic. Orlando City handed some targeted money to DC United which the club did not disclose, in order to achieve the services of the highly-rated midfielder.
City head coach, Adrian Heath is one happy man following the signing of a player of such magnitude. In a statement issued by the club, the head coach praised the club hierarchy for making the capture of Nocerino possible and is looking forward to coaching him in the coming season.
“Nocerino is an energetic and hard-working box-to-box midfielder that can provide an immediate impact within the squad,” said OCSC head coach Adrian Heath in a team statement.
Heath added that Nocerine will bring years of experience with him which will go a long way in helping Orlando City develop as a club.
“He has a tremendous amount of experience playing at the highest level and his ability to play numerous roles in the midfield will be an incredible asset for us this season. We’re looking forward to working with him.”
Nocerino would be llinking up again with his former teammate, Ricardo Kaka, who plays for Orlando City in the MLS. The player played together at AC Milan during Kaka’s second spell with the Italian club. Nocerino has been with the Italian giants since 2011 but fell out of favor in the last couple of years for various reasons. He was sent to West Ham, Torino and Parma on loan after that. He returned to Milan this season in winter but after making just two appearances, he packed up his bags and moved to MLS. And the Italy international is really excited to be playing soccer in the United States.
“I’ve always said that I’d like an experience abroad, it arrived and I grabbed it,” Nocerino told SportItalia. “My needs [were focused on] feeling good and choosing a project where I would really feel an integral part — with fact and not just words.”
“I will always be grateful to Milan for what they gave me and made me become. I had many requests from abroad and didn’t turn any away. I’ve never thought about money because it’s very clear why I went to Parma to play for free and it’s a decision I would make another thousand times because they gave me so much and I worked with a top man and coach like [Roberto] Donadoni.
He added that choosing Orlando City was easy and his family is totally behind his decision to come here.
“In these last few months with my family I’ve looked for a solution that would be good for everyone and in the end I chose Orlando.”
