No decision on Pagano’s future, revels Irsay

Indianapolis Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay has dismissed reports claiming that the fate of team coach, Chuck Pagano has already been decided by the owner.

It is highly unlikely that Pagano will continue beyond Colts’ current season but that does not mean that a decision has already been made regarding the future of the team coach. Those were the words of Colts’ owner Jim Irsay when inquired about the future of the coach. In a statement released by the Colts, Irsay stated that so far no changes has been made in the structure of Colts organization for 2016 and beyond.

There are still some hopes that Indianapolis Colts will reach the playoffs, although those hopes are very slim and to achieve that feat seems highly unlikely at the moment. Coach Pagano is expected to be dismissed after the season finale on Sunday but the Colts hierarchy has confirmed that a decision is yet to be made whether to dismiss or retain Pagano.

A source close to Pagano revealed earlier that Colts do not wish to retain Pagano after the season and that he will be dismissed after Sunday. However, the team owner has rebuffed this claim and has made a public statement in this regard and has added that the decision regarding Pagano future with the team will be taken after the season finale on Sunday.

The reports from Pagano camp are that he does not expect to be retained but so far, there has been no words about his future. The factor behind the delay about coach’s future could be the fact that Jim Irsay is waiting to see if Colts manage to crawl through to the playoffs or not. Chuck Pagano on the other hand is remaining calm despite the situation.

While talking to reporters, he confirmed that he has not had any talk with Irsay about his future but added that he is not much worried about that. Seems like Pagano is waiting for the inevitable and has vowed to be fine regardless of the circumstances.

“Like I told you a long time ago, I’m going to be fine,” Pagano said.

Pagano said that his sole focus at the moment is to help his team win the last game of the season on Sunday.

“I’ve got one goal, one focus right now and that’s the Tennessee Titans and that’s getting this team ready to win another football game.”

The coach is still holding on the slim hopes of getting through the playoffs and has backed his players to achieve that amazing feat. Pagano said that Colts have had a tough year but praised his players for getting through it and not bowing down to pressure.

In his four seasons in charge of Indianapolis Colts, Pagano is 40-23 (.635 winning percentage). This also includes the time when due to his leukemia treatment, he had to take leave of absent. Among all the active NFL coaches at the moment, Chuck Pagano’s record ranks at fourth-best in the league.
